Nosy Fanihy is known as the ancient residence of legendary kings, a place where time seems suspended between the pages of history.
It is a sacred island, protected by a pair of Ankoay (fish eagles) and ancestral Fady (taboos). The white coral sand is used for the foundation stone of new constructions to bring good luck; it was once a burial place for Sakalava kings. On the island, shouting, urinating, and... making love are forbidden. With clear volcanic origins, the island boasts a stunning sandy beach and a rocky area with characteristic black stones. Surrounded by abundant coral and a wide variety of fish, it is perfect for easy and enjoyable snorkeling.
