JOZANI FOREST
Jozani Forest’s 44 sq km, about 3% of the whole island, comprise groundwater forest, coastal forest and grassland, as well as mangroves and salt marsh on the coast. It provides a habitat for a wide variety of mammals, birds and butterflies. A walk through this impressive flora and fauna is one of the highlights Zanzibar has to offer. The reserve has excellent nature trails, and our English, French, Spanish, Italian and German speaking guides are well trained and informative.
BUTTERFLY CENTRE
The beautiful Zanzibar Butterfly Centre near Jozani- Chwaka Bay National Park This community project aims to protect endangered species of butterflies, to educate both local people and visitors, and to provide an income for villagers.
Set in 5000 sq/ft of beautiful gardens only 5 minutes by car from the Jozani Forest, it offers the opportunity to see butterflies very close (they might even settle on your hand!), to feed them and to learn all about their fascinating life cycle.

- Please be mindful that Jozani forest and the Butterfly Center. are conservation areas, therefore we ask that you don’t do anything to disrupt the eco system or animals.
- Please ask permission from your guide before taking pictures of people.
